Our Eyes are Our Best Tool

My students in Trenton Public Schools must overcome challenges both in and out of school. Despite these challenges, they are eager to learn! I am striving to help my student become lifelong learners and readers. This task can be difficult when the classroom is lacking materials and resources needed. I aspire to make my classroom environment as enriching and engaging as possible. Though my students may often lack resources, they most certainly do not lack the passion and determination needed to succeed! This school year I want to implement Novel studies to my classroom. The students are excited about reading, but it’s hard to keep them engage when they do not have their own copy to follow along. With class sets, each student will have access to their very own chapter book! Students will be able to read along, re-read their favorite sections and have text evidence right in front of them when responding to the story. Ultimately, making them more engaged in the reading process is the beginning to the journey to becoming lifelong readers!
